The tiny Botanical Garden “Giardino dei Semplici” in Miasino

During our guided tour of Miasino, a beautiful old village on the eastern hills of Lake Orta, we’ll have a chance to reach this lovely small place located just a few minutes from the square, in a suggestive architectural context. This garden, with the traditional square shape of the ancient hortus conclusus and its thriving olive tree in the middle, is part of the old parish house, a few steps from the baroque church of San Rocco.

Until 2016 this delightful green space, preceded by a little loggiato useful for sheltering from the summer heat, had lived a long period of abandonment and appeared as a sort of intricate grove! The Municipality decided then to make it beautiful again by planting it with an interesting series of "simple herbs", today around a hundred medicinal plants, some of which are rare.
Thanks to the long and careful work committed to the plants together with the preparation of explanatory panels and of traditional plaques with scientific names on them, the "guardian angel" of the garden - the local Hiking Guide, Albert Husband - has created a small corner of paradise surrounded by ancient stone walls on which capers and roses bloom, perfect for garden enthusiasts and for those in search of silence, beauty, atmospheres of times past, scents and colors of magical effects.
Ortaeoltre is glad to introduce you to such a special, tiny botanical garden in Miasino - maybe the smallest in the world!
